As I walked towards room 4169, which is located in the academic building at Delaware County Community College. Anxiety rose up in the pit of my stomach and formed a burning ball of acid that began climbing up the rungs of my ribs cage heading towards my Esophagus. I stood outside the door that temporarily separated me from my midterm conference and had a 60 second soul session while I waited for my turn. Breathing in life energy to my heart's rhythm sound of So, and on the out breathe releasing all anxiety to the rhythm of Hum. Confidence surfaced and I was ready to face the music.
I walked over said good evening to Professor Mangini and sat in the chair across from him. Pleasantries out of the way, we got down to business,
Mangini: "I enjoy having you in my class and the worldly prospective you bring.
Antonia: "Thank you so much!"
Mangini: "I think that you did a good job on your website, look at you with slide shows and the final draft of TIB essay came together ,it seems like you found your groove."
Antonia: "Thank you again."
Let's take a look at some of your writing the professor continued, he pointed out what stood out to him and using words like "Inspirational, Encouraging, Natural Writer and Great Potential." As Mangini and skimmed over the pages on my website, I pulled out my note book and began to dictate.
Mangini: "I just have a few things to nit pick about."
Antonia: "No problem."
Professor Mangini proceeded, capitalize, beware of your spacing, spelling, focus on language usage, formality, in American writing the period goes on the inside of the quotation marks. I commented on the fact that it was a bit confusing because I was thought by Cambridge English standards. Mangini continued showing me where the little mistakes were, create a link to Deislandpot.com. Watch your tense, beware of starting a sentence with ing words and giving dialogue it's own line, were some of the subjects we discussed. I took everything in as constructive, positive and a wonderful one on one mentoring opportunity with an experience writer who had my best interest as a future writer.
Questions:
Mangini: "What does your website say about you?"
Antonia: "The picture on my Home page is inviting ,the one on the About page shows a nurturing side and all together it shows that, despite my harsh up bringing, I am very positive."
Antonia: "What do you get from my website? Do you think that I grew as a writer?"
Mangini: "I think you found your grove as a writer and if you continue like this you could be a successful writer. Your website shows that you are a positive person in spite of your hardships in life and it could potentially help some one else."
